Cryptococcus Neoformans is a fungal organism also called as a pathogen which is mainly found in the debris of wild birds. When this debris dries and decays, it has the chances to enter into human body through lungs. It affects pulmonary tissues and lungs badly with pneumonia. However, the person who has a good immunity might not fall sick with this infection. But a person who has a weakened immunity or suppressed immunity might have life threatening symptoms and outcomes.
However, this rare disease which affects lungs first, has the tendency to spread even to the non-pulmonary tissues and affect the body organs. The chances of brain getting affected are high. When it affects the lungs, it can lead to respiratory system failure. And when the nervous system gets affected it may lead to focal neurological deficit, hydrocephalus, and seizures. It is important to note that this is not a contagious disease which can pass on from person to person or from animals to person. This infection occurs due to inhalation of spores.
