Blastomycosis is counted one among the rare diseases that affect humans, as this condition is most commonly observed in dogs. The disease is a fungal infection and mainly occurs when someone is exposed to the disease causing fungus called Blastomyces dermatitidis.
This harmful organism gains entry into the body through inhalation of spores from the soil and polluted environment. At initial stages, there may be no signs of the onset of this disease. Since it is an airborne disease, there may be no alert signs in form of lung symptoms at all. In such cases, the primary bout of signs is observed on the skin. The disease may become evident in form of rashes and numerous types of lesions on the skin. In the latter stages, people may experience symptoms like persistent fever, dry cough, difficulties in breathing, chest pain, headaches etc.
In serious cases, the cough may take a chronic shape which may be accompanied by the drainage of brown colored phlegm and blood in rare cases. The disease may gradually lead to the weakening of joint areas accompanied by unbearable levels of pain and stiffness. This leads to serious disruptions in the normal physical activities of the suffering person. |
