Can a Fungus infection in the Ears Cause Hearing Damage?

Otitis externa is a serious kind of ear fungal infection. It leads to inflammation of ear canal and the outer part of the ear. This kind o ear fungal infection brings along pain in ears, itching, watery discharge etc. The fungal infection can be bacterial or viral.

And sometimes it might also be due to eczema skin conditions. It is true that a very serious kind of fungus infection in ears when left untreated can also cause hearing damage.  It is vital to clear the excess wax which is accumulated in the ears. Sometimes, such dirty conditions inside can result into fungus infection. Using hair dryer to keep the ears dry, over the counter ear drops for cleaning wax and other home remedies can prevent from such infection. It is important to see that the water or the soap does not go into the ears. Humid and wet conditions can increase the chances of ear fungal infection.

 Pushing Q-Tips too much into the ears can be risky and can cause damage to ear drums. It is important to see the doctor at the earliest when you come across symptoms like mild ear blockage, problem in hearing etc. The doctor will take steps to clear the fungus, if any. A serious infection can be responsible for hearing loss.
