Though shocking for contact lens users, fungal infection can take place due to use of contact lens. The most common type of fungal infection due to use of contact lens is Keratitis. It is defined as an inflammation or swelling of cornea. Cornea covers eye pupil and colored part of the eye.
Frequent use of contact lens makes your eyes vulnerable towards Keratitis. Common symptoms of Keratitis are eye pain, discharge, red eyes, blurred vision and a feeling as if something is there is your eyes. Fusarium is the common fungus spread by contact lenses. This infection is not contagious and does not spread rapidly. The presence of fusarium can be marked everywhere in the surrounding. But contact lenses make the continuous interaction of spores of fusarium with cornea of your eyes. As a result your eyes get affected.
People having a sound immune system are least vulnerable towards the adverse effects of fusarium. When your immune system is weak, the spore can cause several problems in your eyes. The symptoms of fusarium infection are similar to bacterial infections in eyes. To avoid the above fungal infections, you need to wash your hands before touching your lenses. You need to replace your contact in regular interval and the contact needs to be cleaned daily. |
