How is a Contact Lenses Infection Treated?

While suffering from symptoms like witness red eyes, frequent tears, itching and burning and pain in frequent intervals, you are advised to consult your eye doctor or ophthalmologist immediately. The eye doctor conducts several testes including refraction test, slit-lamp examination, tear test and Fluorescein stain examination to determine the magnitude of infection.

After it, the treatment starts. Fungal keratitis, the most common eye infection due to contact lenses is treated with antifungal medications. These medicines are generally tropical and oral in nature. There are some cases while the victim does not respond to antifungal medications. In such cases, the eye doctor goes for surgery or corneal transplantation. Among all contact lenses related fungal infections, Acanthamoeba keratitis is tougher to be cured. In this case, the infection can spread towards other parts of body.

To check the infection, early diagnosis is required. During the treatment, the victim is advised not to wear the contact lenses. Contaminated lenses are replaced for a clean and safe one. Hygiene of your contact lenses is vital for prevention of infection in the eyes. They need to be clean and should be replaced in regular intervals. The storage case of contact lenses should be clean.
