Famciclovir is basically an anti-viral drug. Famciclovir is designated chemically as 2-[2-(2-amino-9H-purin-9-yl) ethyl]-1, 3-propanediol diacetate. It has a molecular formula of C14H19N5O4 and a molecular weight of: 321.3.
This drug is white to pale yellow solid and is also easily soluble into acetone, methanol, and partly soluble in isopropanol and ethanol. Famciclovir tablets comes in strengths of 500mg, 250mg and 125mg. Other than the active ingredient of Famciclovir, they also have inactive ingredients like hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, magnesium stearate, lactose, sodium starch glycolate, titanium dioxide and polyethylene glycols. This drug is used to treat Shingles and genital herpes and is also used to treat HIV patients. Patients suffering from any kind of kidney disorders, Galactose intolerance and allergies to food, dyes, or preservatives should share it with the doctor.
