Coccidioidomycosis is fungus based infection triggered by Coccidioides immitis spores. This condition is the result of the invasion of the fungus Coccidioides immitis into the respiratory system of the body. There are three main forms of the disease known to the humans- acute, chronic and pulmonary forms. Acute or mild form of Coccidioidomycosis is case of rarity in which the symptoms hardly show.
This manifestation of the disease is often misdiagnosed by doctors due to the lack of any evident symptoms on the affected person. Secondly, the second form of the disease, chronic Coccidioidomycosis is more uncommon than the acute form. This stage of the fungal disease is characterized by delayed appearance of symptoms, which do not appear any earlier than 20 years of the progression of the disease. The disseminated form of infection occurs when the disease spreads to the entire body and affects the major organs of the body.
The fungus inside the body multiplies and spreads to organs like liver, lungs, brain, heart and more via the bloodstream. The patients suffering from this serious form of disease suffer from symptoms like acute pneumonia, joint infections, meningitis, osteomyelitis and much more. They may experience inflammation of the skin which results into the formation of skin lesions, pulmonary nodules etc. |
