When you have thrush you can be treated with certain medications that can help you. Some of the medications can take a few weeks before they go into full effect and you must stay the course and take the full dose to make sure that it won't come back. Medications will vary depending on who has it and the condition of thrush.
Medications for thrush:
- Topical antifungal medications. These medications can be applied to the area that is affected and you can find them with lozenges or other forms.
- Oral antifungal medications. These are used a lot when the infection is mild but sometimes can be used to treat a severe condition.
- Gentian violet
- Listerin mouthwash
- Azoles
- Polyenes
- Chlorhexidine
Some of the medications are prescriptions but in most cases if the condition is not severe you can find it over the counter. In rare cases sometimes injections might be given directly into the vain. Side effects of the medications will vary depending on what you are taking.
