Is Nocardiosis a Serious Fungal Infection?

Nocardiosis is a serious infection caused by a bacterium that behaves like a fungus. This disease is found among people of all the age groups, however, it most commonly affects older males who have poor immunity. Aged people are more vulnerable to inflicting this disease because of a ruptured self-defense mechanism of their body, immune system.

This disease spreads through the inhalation of spores present in the mud and air. The infection starts progressing from the lungs and then spreads to the rest of organs in the body. This disease is known to affect the skin, lungs and the central nervous system. It further multiplies into the rest of organs like heart, eyes, bones, kidneys and joints. Thus, it is right to say that the severe forms of this disease can cause serious disruptions in the lifeline of the body. According to doctors, the most dreadful risks of this disease are lung disorders and a weakened immune system. Both these systems form the backbone of a human which once distorted hampers the quality of his life. Due to disrupted respiratory system, the person faces extreme helplessness at the time of breathing.
