How is Pink Eye Treated?
|
Only after a thorough analysis and diagnosis can the doctor treat a pink eye. Depending on the cause the treatment would be antibiotics or any other medication. To treat a pink eye caused by allergy antihistamines is used and might help. In case of bacterial infections antibiotics are used. Pink eye would get cured on its own, if it doesn’t then show doctor. One can soothe the pain by placing warm cotton on eyes. Or a clean cloth soaked in warm water can be used.
In case of a viral infection the doctors suggest drops or an ointment is prescribed in order to fasten recovery. It is difficult to conclude whether the condition of pink eye is due to bacteria or virus. Sometimes children suffer from cold in addition to the infection and this is serious and demands attention. The symptoms of pink eye can show an ear infection, mostly in small children. Unless laboratory tests are done on swaps of eye discharge or blood samples, it is common to treat the patient with antibiotic ointments to tackle cold. Even oral antibiotics are taken to combat cold symptoms.
The drops prescribed for pink eye are temporary and should be taken according to the doctor’s recommendation. Stopping the drugs as soon as the symptoms go can cause harm and rebound the infection. |
