Are There Prescription Medications for Nail Fungus?

There are some prescription medications for people who have nail fungus. Whe taking prescription medications you should pay close attention to the side effects and follow the directions given to prevent infection or injury.

Prescription medications for nail fungus:

- griseofulvin
- terbinafine
- itraconazole
- fluconazole

The medications that are usally really effective are terbianfine and itraconazole. It usually only takes a full course with these medications and around 80 percent of the time the infections heal while Grisofulvin only heals around 70 percent of the time. While fluconazole is mentioned it is not used as much because it is still being studied to see if it can work like the other drugs.

When you are on a prescription medication you might not see any healing effects from it for around three months depending on what medication you are taking. For infections it can take around 18 months before it is healthy again. The healing process depends on your condition and how serious the infection is.
