Skin fungus are hard sometime hard to determine. With the flaking, itching, thickness, and redness of the skin the affected area might look similar to other types of infections.
Physicians will use a microscope when trying to determine what the skin fungus is. If a doctor prescribes you a certain medicine and you are not seeing results within two weeks you will want to be sure and contact your physician again.
There are several over the counter medicines that are available for people who have a certain skin fungus such as Athlete’s Foot. If you notice that the medicine is not working, then you will want your physician to order you a prescription such as Canesten or Diflucan.
Be sure that you participate in good, clean hygiene's. Even if you are on medication it is not recommend that someone touch the affected area.
