What are the Symptoms of Sepsis?

It is important to understand the symptoms of sepsis so that fast medical attention can be sought to avoid complications.

  • Chills, shivering and fever can be associated with sepsis. But sometimes even low temperature of the body can be a sign of sepsis.
  • The heart beat is very fast.
  • Low blood pressure is often the case in person who has sepsis.
  • Decreased visits to toilet, dizziness etc. can also be a strong sign.
  • Skin gets discolored and red spots on the skin indicate the presence of sepsis.
  • Extreme pain in joints, ankles and knees is also there.

However, such symptoms may also indicate some other disorder. But one can strongly believe that there is sepsis when the following people show the above symptoms:

  • People who are transplant recipients
  • People who are treated with radiation and chemotherapy
  • Patients who take steroids
  • Patients who have had serious injuries and burns
  • People with diabetes, AIDS
  • People who have pneumonia, meningitis, cellulitis, urinary tract infection

When these patients show the symptoms as mentioned, it must be understood that there is sepsis. And thus, tests must be conducted for diagnosing the presence of sepsis and seek treatment at the earliest to avoid further complications.
