Topical medications are commonly used to treat fungus. Topical antifungal creams are used for the treatment of following fungus infections.
1. Infections caused by the yeast like Pityriasis versicolor and Candida intertrigo.
2. Dermatophyte infection like Tinea cruris, Tinea manuum, Tinea corporis, Tinea pedis and Tinea faciei.
3. Infections like Tinea barbae and Tinea capitis.
These creams should be applied continuously for two to four weeks twice daily. In most cases repeated treatment is necessary. Some examples of such creams are Undecylenic alkanolamide, Whitfield’s ointment, Polynes, etc. Apart from these there are many antifungal and antiseptic preparations which are used to cure paronychia or nail fold infections. Some examples are Sulfacetamide mixed in 15% spirit, Miconazole (Daktarin tincture; Fungo solution), Econazole solution (Pevaryl solution) and Thymol mixed in 3% chloroform. To cure nail plate infection there are certain medical preparations that need to be applied on the affected area. For example Ciclopiro (Nail Batrafen), morpholine, amorolfine (Loceryl, nail lacquer) are used commonly. To treat vaginal fungus infection the following creams like Isoconazole, Tioconazole, Clotrimazole, Miconazole are prescribed. For oral infections medications like Miconazole, Nystatin tablets or capsules and Amphotericin B are used. |
