What Type of Treatments Are There for Cryptococcosis Fungus Infections of the Lungs?

People with good immunity, who have small amount cryptococcus in the lungs, do not require any treatment. But when a person has a severe infection or there is serious spread of lung lesions then the doctor will prescribe antifungal medications. The symptoms of cryptococcosis are strong indicator of the presence of infection. It is therefore important to take help of the health care provider at the earliest.
Some of the medications that can be used in this are:

  • Fluconazole: This medication is for lung infection and this oral medication helps in reducing the duration of illness.

  • Flucytosine: this medication is prescribed for fighting infection in people with weakened immune system.

  • Practicing safe sex to avoid HIV infection
  • Taking lower dosage of corticosteroid
