What Types of Treatments are there for Nocardiosis?

It is imperative to subject the person suffering from Nocardiosis under intensive treatment as well as preventive measures so as to completely kill the infestation of the bacteria and avoid relapses in the future. An ideal treatment lasts for a period of 6 months in which the patient is given several anti-bacterial medicines and alternate therapies for a complete relief.

High dosages of co-trimoxazole or sulfonamides are most commonly given to such people for a long term. Those who do not efficiently respond to the medications of sulfonamides are given other drugs like minocycline or erythromycin. Additional drugs that are given in combination with sulfonamides or co-trimoxazole drugs are Sulfadiazine, Trimethoprim Sulfamethoxazole, Ceftriaxone, Imipenem, Microsulfon, Bactrim, Septra and many more. In severe cases, surgical methods are used for the drainage of abscesses. Further, surgeries are opted for the elimination the necrotic tissue in the body. Apart from the medicinal ways, patients are strongly advised adequate bed rest to help the body muster enough strength to fight against the growing infestation of harmful bacteria inside the body. Distressed patients are also encouraged to increase their water intake to at least 8 ounces in one day in order to enhance the functioning of the immune system.
