What Type of Treatments are Used for Coccidioidomycosis?

The primary form of Coccidioidomycosis requires no treatment what-so-ever. However, if the flu like symptoms like fever, chest pain, head ache, chills etc, appear severe, dosage of anti-fungal treatments should be immediately started. The next best treatment for such patients is bed rest. The patient can also be given the dosage of medicines like I.V. infusion, amphotericin B, fluconazole.

In case, the person is stressed with serious forms of pulmonary lesions, he may be given lobectomy. Further medicines like ketoconazole and Miconazole are best at suppressing the growth of C.immitis fungus and hence can be used as essential means of oral treatment. The lesions observed in the joints and other bones can only be treated with the help of medicines and specialized physical therapies. Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, better known as its abbreviation, TENS, is an effective neuropathy treatment that relieves the pain in the joints and other bones. In this treatment, no medicines are prescribed to the patient as it is a powerful cure conducted on the skin.

 Further, during the mild stage of the disease, the patient is highly encouraged to increase the intake of fluid, especially water. Water boosts the ruptured immune system which aids the body in combating against the harmful infestation of the fungus.
